None of our dogs have never been trained for other disciplines like drug or explosives detection or search and rescue. Our handlers are simultaneously put through a rigorous exercise with carefully selected animals. Our unique training regime is performed daily without fail. We are in a unique position in Europe being the only company with sufficient trained animals to allow us to remove dogs from service without effecting service to our clients.
A scent discrimination system is employed to keep the bed bug dog accurate at distinguishing between live bed bugs, dead bugs, cast skins, plaster, carpet fibers and other competing odours. Our bed bug dogs engage in fitness training every day to ensure they maintain a high energy level and can work with diligence. Bed bug hides are performed to enable the dogs to seek out bed bug activity in a real life setting. Our dogs teeth are brushed regularly because gum disease can affect a canine’s nasal passages and ability to discriminate scent.
We document our daily training exercises so that we can monitor the efficacy of each animal. In common with most detection dogs our animals live with there handlers and their families in the home this ensures the dogs maintain good temperaments. Kenneled animals are often of less even temperament and usually smell due to the increased sebum produced to protect the animal from the elements.
